Zakat, calculated on your device.

ZakApp tracks what you own, applies the zakatability rule for each category, and gives you an estimate. The working happens in your browser, and your records are encrypted before they leave it.

  • Open source, AGPL-3.0
  • Self-hostable with Docker
  • No analytics or third-party requests
The ZakApp dashboard: an estimated zakat due figure, a hawl in progress with a progress bar, quick actions, and a wealth summary.

The dashboard. Every figure here was worked out in the browser.

What leaves your device.

Not much, and never in a form anyone else can read. These are properties of how the app is built, not promises about how it will behave.

  1. Calculation runs in your browser.

Your figures are computed on your own machine. Nothing is sent to a server to work out your zakat.

  2. Your vault is encrypted before it syncs.

The key stays on your device. What the server stores is ciphertext it has no way to open.

  3. No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party requests.

The app talks to its own API and to nothing else. This page loads no external font, no CDN, and no tracker.

  4. The code is public.

Read it, audit it, or run your own copy. The claims on this page can be checked against the repository.

The ZakApp assets screen listing cash, gold, silver, crypto, investments, retirement accounts, real estate, and business inventory.

Every asset, with the ruling that applies to it.

You record what you own in plain categories. ZakApp keeps the zakatability rules for each one, so you are not carrying the method in your head.

  • Cash and bank balances
  • Gold and silver, priced from live market rates
  • Crypto holdings
  • Investment accounts
  • Retirement accounts, including 401k and IRA, with selectable treatment
  • Real estate
  • Business inventory

Nisab is tracked against live gold and silver prices, at the threshold for the school you follow.

The ZakApp hawl records screen showing an active lunar year, nisab basis, total wealth, zakatable wealth, and the zakat obligation.

A hawl you can actually see.

Each nisab record carries its own lunar year. You get the progress, the days left, the due date, and the record once it is finalized.

Progress
Day count and percentage for every hawl in flight
Dates
Hijri and Gregorian, side by side, with a due date countdown
History
Finalized years archived, so you can look back or hand them to someone else

Step by step, with your school on the result.

The calculator walks through methodology, assets, and review. You choose a school of thought, and that choice is shown on the calculation you end up with.

  • Hanafi
  • Shafi'i
  • Maliki
  • Hanbali
  • Standard consensus

Multi-currency, and every run is saved as a record you can revisit.

Your wealth, over time.

Analytics shows the trajectory of what you hold, year over year. Payments are kept as records, with recipients tracked by the asnaf categories.

  • Wealth trajectory and year over year comparison
  • Payment history
  • Recipients by asnaf category
  • PDF and CSV export

Take it with you.

ZakApp is released under the AGPL and ships as a Docker image. If you would rather not depend on anyone else's server, you can run the whole thing yourself. Most zakat calculators are a cloud service or a phone app. This one you can hold.

Running your own copy is also how you check the claims on this page. Nothing here has to be taken on trust, because the code that does the encrypting and the calculating is the same code you can read.

Your first vault takes a few minutes.

Add what you own, pick the school you follow, and read the estimate. There is no card, no tracking, and nothing about your finances reaches anyone else.
